Bhim Shankar Temple is one of the Dwadasha Jyothir Linga
situated in the village Bhorgiri which is 50km North West of Khed, on the Ghat
regions of Sahyadri Hills, Pune, Maharashtra. This is one of the ancient
temples built in Nagara style located 3500 ft above the sea level on the banks of River (Chandrabhaga) Bhima,
existing dates back to mid of 18th century. The sacred river
Bhima flows on the south east of this temple and converge with Krishna River at
Raichur. In this temple Lord Shiva
worshipped in the form of a self manifested Linga.
Presiding deity – Lord Bhim Shankar with his consort Goddess
Sri Kamalaja/Goddess Sri Parvati
Worshipped by – Lord Brahma, Sage Vyagrapadha, Sage Kaushik
Lord Brahma worshipped Goddess Sri Kamalaja with Lotus
flowers.

The legend has that, there was a demon Tripurasura harassed
the three worlds after attaining several boons. The deities
approached Lord Shiva for killing Tripurasura. Lord Shiva took the form
of Lord Bhim Shankar and Goddess Sakthi transformed herself into Goddess
Kamalaja and with the Shiva Ganas Shakini and Dakini beheaded the demon
Tripurasura.
Worship of Lord Bhim Shankar with Goddess Sri Kamalaja and visit to this shrine is perfectly suitable during the months of February and September as it was located 3500 ft from the ground level undergoes extreme climatic conditions.
This temple remains open from 4.30 AM to 12.30 in the morning and 3.00 PM to 9.30 PM in the evenings.
